Also, I would climb up on the couch and then put my head on the ground and flip off. I started gymnastics at Rocky Mountain Gymnastics, and through my gymnastics career I worked out at Missy Marlowe’s and GTC. My first job working with kids was at the JCC where I was a summer camp counselor.

I am Brittany, and currently I coach the Level 4’s and I have been coaching for 4 years here at GTC. I was a gymnast myself, and competed for GTC! I absolutely love it here at GTC because it is like my second family here! I also love coaching here because I love being a part of all the girls’ young lives! I love the sport of gymnastics because it not only teaches someone to be healthy and fit but it also can teach so many lifelong lessons! I am currently in school at the University of Utah with plans to become a doctor of some kind in the near future. When I am not at school or at work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. Also, when not at school or work I really enjoy helping others. I just recently came back from a humanitarian trip to Ghana where I got to work with local optometry clinics. I would love to be able to continue to travel because I love learning and experiencing new and diverse cultures! It would be awesome if I could become a doctor and then also travel the world to help the many people that are less fortunate than myself. Yeah, that is pretty much me in a nutshell!

Is there a project/cause/business you would like to promote? : Bowling for Rhinos. I had an opportunity to visit Kenya, Africa in February 2011. It was an incredible experience. We stayed at a place called Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. There we learned about all of the animal conservation efforts they are making as well as the impact they make on the surrounding communities. They work hard to educate adults and children, help provide clean water, help women start businesses, and much more. After I learned all that Lewa does for the incredible wildlife AND people, I could not resist helping raise money for Lewa. Bowling for Rhinos is a fundraiser that occurs every spring/summer sponsored by Utah’s Hogle Zoo.

My name is Lisa Ellison. I grew up in a great town called Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I have a brother who is 4 years younger than me. I am a proud aunt to two children. I moved to Salt Lake City in 1999 to work at the Utah’s Hogle Zoo. I met my husband at the zoo, as a coworker said we should go out because we were both vegetarians. We were friends first, and have been married since 2002. Growing up gymnastics was my life. I started with a gym and swim class as a tot and started competing in second grade. I went onto high school gymnastics and then onto college club gymnastics. I started coaching at age 15 and started coaching competitive gymnastics my junior year in college. I can remember the day when my boss asked me to coach the level 5 team. It made me proud then and I am still so proud of who I am as a coach. I love to learn. With coaching you never stop learning even if you coach the same level year after year. Plus, I have the privilege of working with one of my best friends. Together we make a fantastic team. I am so lucky to have not one, but two great professions. I am surrounded by cool people and cool animals.

I started doing gymnastics at The Little Gym when I was two years old. Later on I became a competitive gymnast for GTC. I quit gymnastics when I was 14 years old and now I do competitive cheerleading, which is fun, but not even close to as good as gymnastics is. I miss it like crazy! I go to Olympus High School and for the most part really like it! Science is definitely my favorite subject and I would really like to get a degree in Wildlife Biology in college. I have animals and have had pets my entire life. I have an orange cat named Tigger who everyone thinks is super mean but he’s basically like my baby. I really like coaching gymnastics because it reminds me of all the good times I had as a gymnast as well as lets me help other people get new skill and gain confidence.

When you are not at GTC where are you/what are you doing? I really love helping my kids whenever I can, hanging out with my grandkids whenever I can, and sitting at my computer writing. I also like to pass the time thinking about how to coach a skill better!

Is there a project/cause/business you would like to promote?

What’s a fun fact about you that not many people know? I tumbled during halftime for the Utah Stars (the basketball team before the Utah Jazz!)

Favorite movie? Action: Bourne Identity / Scary: What Lies Beneath / Comedy: So I Married an Axe Murderer, and What About Bob? / Romantic: While You Were Sleeping / Kids: The Incredibles

Favorite book? I love The Count of Monte Cristo, and Pride & Prejudice. My favorite modern-day author is Dean Koontz

Favorite food? Anything spicy, dark chocolate, pineapple, homemade bread

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Coaching more cool kids, winning lots of State Championships!
